Do you ever find yourself thinking about fairground food? You know, deep-fried anything, turkey legs, grilled corn? Ooh, yes, that last one. Grilled corn. And then you want some.

But breaking out the grill is a big hassle, and it’s tough to get it cooked just right. Or maybe it’s February, and it’s whatever passes for cold in your neck of the woods? Well not to worry. We’ve got you covered.

This Air Fryer Frozen Corn on the Cob is quick, easy, no mess, and it’s so close to the real deal, you’ll swear you can hear a carny shouting at you.

What you will need

The ingredients for this couldn’t be much simpler:

  • Frozen Corn on the cob. I prefer the cobettes, because it’s easier to arrange in your fryer basket. If you’re only making this for yourself or 2-3 people, the full size should work fine. Any more, and I’d go with the cobettes.
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Any other seasonings you like on your corn- garlic powder, seasoned salt, whatever.
  • Butter
  • Butter-flavor cooking spray.

And that is it.

Precook the Corn

Okay, you need to pre-cook the corn a little bit. This basically amounts to heating it up, but it’s an essential step if you want your air fryer frozen corn on the cob to have that authentic grilled corn taste.

I recommend preheating your air fryer. Either way, arrange your corn in the basket, then put it in for 10 minutes on 360°F.

Prepare the Corn

Now that your corn is somewhat warm, go ahead and take it out of the drawer. Keep a plate or large bowl handy to put it in momentarily. Now line the bottom of your air fryer basket with foil. Make sure the edges are raised up just a little.

Then, replace the corn. Spray the corn down with the butter-flavor cooking spray. This will help your seasoning stick. More importantly, this helps get those nice dark brown bits that are the hallmark of true fairground grilled corn.

After that, sprinkle the corn with salt and pepper, or whatever seasoning you like. My kids accidentally put cinnamon sugar on it once, and now they’re addicted to it. Or, for an alternate method, don’t season it yet. Just put some pats of butter in the foil lining the bottom. Those raised edges I mentioned earlier will keep it from melting out into your fryer.

Once it’s all seasoned up, put it back in the fryer for about 5 more minutes, But this time crank it up to 400° F. This, again, helps to get those nice browned bits. Once it dings, it’s ready! If you didn’t season it already, you can dip/roll it in the melted butter on the bottom of your fryer basket. Then give your guests an assortment of seasonings to choose from and let them make their own creation from there.

You’re Done

That’s it. Once you try it, you won’t believe this is air fryer frozen corn on the cob. But don’t take my word for it; it’s time to sink your teeth in and be transported straight to the state/county fairs of your youth. Except better, because you can have it year-round. And with 100% less carnies.
